Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard (2 Core)
Industry-leading
Build critical, intelligent online transaction processing (OLTP) applications with breakthrough scalability, performance, and availability.
Advanced protection
Keep your data at rest and in motion. SQL Server is the least vulnerable database in six years, operating on the NIST vulnerability database.
Comprehensive mobile BI
Turn your data into actionable insights. Deliver analytics on any device - online or offline - for a fifth of the cost of other self-service solutions.
Advanced database analysis
Analyze data directly in a SQL Server database - without moving the data - using R, the popular statistics language.
Built for the hybrid cloud
Get a consistent platform and tools to help you move workloads between your datacenter, private cloud, or Microsoft Azure.

Improved security
Broader access to data
As the cost of data storage continues to decline and the number of data formats commonly used by applications continues to change, you need both the ability to manage access to historical data in relationships as well as seamlessly integrating relational data with semi-structured and unstructured data. SQL Server 2016 includes several new features to support this evolving environment, giving you access to a wider variety of data.

Licensing of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard
Companies looking to purchase SQL Server 2016 Standard (2 core) will benefit from flexible core-based licensing. Since the number of users and devices is not important, companies do not need a Client Access License (CAL) to use SQL Server 2016 Standard (2 core). Licensing by core allows any number of devices and users to access the appropriate SQL server.
As a minimum for this type of licensing, Microsoft provides four licensed cores. Thus, the number of core licenses required depends on the number of server cores.
